Artist Statement : The initial focus of my artwork was to incorporate a grizzly bear in its natural habitat, the forest. That is essentially what I tried to focus on. However, as I went on I decided to create an image around the bear that way it wouldn't just be a lonely bear in the forest, instead this bear has character, he is in the forest walking over a pond and at the same time surrounded by great mountains that demonstrate the vast wild life around him. The most evident principles of art that were used were that of contrast. I decided to include a great amount of contrast to demonstrate the darkness and tranquility of the great forest.
My artwork was initially based off a very spectacular tattoo sketch of a grizzly bear that I happened to come across while looking for inspiration. This tattoo admired the bear amongst many aspects of life. I took inspiration from this and was able to implement it to my art piece.
Initially, my artwork was just a lonely bear in the forest, however, after I thought it out and began adding and adjusting to my drawing I began to figure out that this art piece can be seen as a social issue towards bears. For example, bears are in continuous danger of extinction due to their fur and this art work can be used to demonstrate the life and tranquility of a bear's life and to promote a positive attitude towards them and why they should not be constantly put in danger.
My goals were not fully reached because I still feel like I could’ve done more to improve this piece. However, it is a step in a good direction to expand my boundaries and improve my art and enlighten myself on various elements of art,
While, creating this art piece learned that art is better when it’s done at a slow pace and never rushed because when it’s rushed you never get the expected result. In addition, I was also able to expand my knowledge and various art techniques and elements that I was able to implement all at once in this art piece.
